On the morning of 22 November 2024, a heavily escorted convoy travelling along the Tal–Parachinar road was ambushed near Bagan in Lower Kurram. Gunmen opened fire from high ground on both sides of the route, targeting buses carrying women, children, and elderly passengers.

Officials say more than 40 people were killed and many others wounded in one of the deadliest attacks on the road in years. Survivors described nearly an hour of sustained firing before help arrived, and accused local facilitators of guiding the attackers and monitoring convoy movements in the days beforehand.

Investigators have told Kurram Updates that Sajid Turi and Inayat Turi are under active scrutiny for their alleged role in planning support for the ambush, including communication with armed groups, arranging lookout positions, and pressuring drivers to reveal convoy timings.

Relatives of victims have demanded immediate arrests, saying both men long used tribal influence to intimidate opponents and had publicly threatened retaliation before the massacre. Community leaders in Parachinar called the attack a deliberate attempt to terrorise civilians and permanently close the main highway.

Neither Sajid Turi nor Inayat Turi has been formally charged at the time of publication, but police records reviewed by our desk show multiple complaints filed against them in the months leading up to the Bagan killings.

Kurram Updates will continue to publish testimony, official statements, and evidence as the investigation proceeds.
